Ahmedabad: The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) inaugurated the Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence on its campus on Thursday. The new school is aimed at combining advanced artificial intelligence research with management expertise to address complex challenges across industry, government and society, while preparing future-ready leaders.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon, Indian-American philanthropist, business leader and IIM-A alumna, along with Board of Governors chairperson Pankaj Patel, Director Prof. Bharat Bhasker, and Ramesh Mangaleswaran, founding member of the IIM-A Endowment Fund, besides senior faculty members and invited guests.

The school has been established through an endowment of ₹100 crore by Chandrika Tandon and her husband Ranjan Tandon. According to the institute, the initiative is envisioned as a world-class platform that will deploy artificial intelligence along with IIM Ahmedabad’s management expertise to develop practical solutions, improve decision-making, enhance productivity, and address pressing challenges across multiple sectors.

The institute said the school will focus on translational and applied AI research, with emphasis on converting technological advances into real-world applications. It will work to bridge frontier AI research with managerial and societal contexts, generating knowledge that is globally relevant while remaining rooted in Indian realities. Through its focus on research, education, and industry collaboration, the school aims to nurture leaders equipped with technical capability, managerial judgment, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
