Bhuj: In a major step to ease rising traffic congestion, the Gujarat government has initiated the process for the proposed 21-km-long bypass for Bhuj city.

₹114.64 lakh earmarked for land acquisition

The government has earmarked ₹114.64 lakh for land acquisition and consultancy work for the long-awaited project, with a deadline of 10 months to complete the process. Once land acquisition is finalised, construction activity is expected to pick up, paving the way for a long-term solution to the city’s traffic woes.

Route to pass through key areas

The proposed bypass will pass through Bhujodi and Madhapar, which are among the prominent entry points to Bhuj, as well as through the boundaries of Sukhpar and Mirzapar villages. It will connect key routes, including the Bhuj–Nakhtrana, Bhuj–Mandvi, Bhuj–Mundra and Bhuj–Bhachau roads.

Once completed, the bypass will allow heavy vehicles from highways to avoid entering Bhuj city, enabling smoother and faster transit while significantly reducing urban traffic congestion.

At this stage, the tender focuses on appointing an expert agency to acquire around 45 hectares of land. The selected consultant will conduct land surveys, prepare digital cadastral maps, assess social impact, and identify affected structures while attempting to minimise displacement.

The agency will also hold consultations with landowners and farmers and carry out all legal, revenue and administrative procedures under the Land Acquisition Act.
