Surat: A tragic drowning incident at a resort in Olpad taluka of Surat district has sparked concern after CCTV footage revealed that a 22-year-old man struggled for nearly two minutes in a swimming pool while others nearby kept swimming and did not come to his rescue.
The incident occurred on March 23 at Akshay Resort & Swimming Pool near Talad village, where more than 25 people were present around the pool. The victim, Purushottam Ashokbhai Chaudhary, a resident of the Pandesara area in Surat, had entered the pool at around 2:50 pm.

Shortly after diving into the pool, the youth began to drown. CCTV footage shows him repeatedly gesturing for help and struggling to stay afloat for nearly two minutes. Despite several people being in close proximity, no one appeared to recognise his distress or come to his rescue.
After he became unconscious, he was pulled out of the pool and rushed to Olpad Government Hospital in a 108 ambulance. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The CCTV footage, which surfaced on March 29, clearly captures the sequence of events, showing the youth gasping for air while others continued swimming nearby, seemingly unaware of the situation.
The incident has raised serious questions about safety measures and supervision at the resort, as well as public awareness in identifying signs of drowning. DeshGujarat
