Surat Diamond Bourse Customs Logs ₹42,636 Crore Trade in 2025-26
April 01, 2026
Surat: Amid ongoing efforts to develop the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) into a vibrant trading hub, fresh data indicates a significant rise in import-export activity at its Customs Office during the financial year 2025–26.
According to official figures, a total of 5,088 parcels were handled during the year, with transactions valued at approximately ₹42,636 crore, largely driven by imports. Of this, imports accounted for 4,160 parcels comprising 512.75 lakh carats of rough diamonds and lab-grown seeds worth ₹41,515 crore. Exports, meanwhile, stood at ₹1,121 crore across 928 parcels. The figures underline SDB’s growing importance as a key centre for customs clearance of diamonds and gem jewellery.
Faster Logistics and Policy Support
Officials attributed the growth to a series of policy measures by the Union Government and the Customs Department. Simplification of the KYC process has reduced the need for repeated documentation by traders. Additionally, fee relaxations for transshipment from Mumbai to Surat and the transfer of TP (transshipment permit) generation to SDB have streamlined logistics.
The validity period for bonds has also been reduced from 10 days to 5 days, easing requirements related to bank guarantees. As a result, consignments arriving in Mumbai can now reach Surat on the same day, significantly improving turnaround time, reducing costs, and enhancing overall operational efficiency.
Record Imports in December 2025
December 2025 emerged as the busiest month for SDB, recording the highest import volumes during the year. During the month, 350 parcels of natural rough diamonds totalling 28.43 lakh carats, valued at around ₹4,505 crore, were imported.
In addition, 85 parcels of lab-grown rough (seeds), comprising 24.13 lakh carats worth ₹286 crore, were also imported. These figures represent the highest monthly import levels recorded during the financial year. DeshGujarat
