Watch: Glimpses of 3D Projection Mapping, Light and Sound Show at Rani ki Vav

Patan: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday virtually inaugurated a 3D projection mapping and light-and-sound show at the UNESCO World Heritage site, Rani ki Vav. The project, developed by the Gujarat Tourism Department at a cost of ₹18 crore, aims to blend heritage with modern technology to enhance the visitor experience.

The 24-minute show presents the lesser-known history of Rani ki Vav, offering a visually immersive narrative of Patan’s rich cultural legacy. The initiative is expected to create a new tourist attraction at the historic stepwell, which already draws around 3.5 to 4 lakh visitors annually.

The 3D projection mapping show will highlight not only Rani ki Vav but also key heritage and cultural elements of Gujarat, including Somnath, the Modhera Sun Temple, Kirti Stambh, Patan Patola, the Jain temples of Palitana, and other traditional art forms such as Dori Garba Raas and local crafts. The show also features the story of Queen Udayamati, ancient water management systems, and the architectural brilliance of the Solanki era.

Modern Technology Without Structural Impact

The project has been executed by Aura Bright Light India Pvt Ltd, Ahmedabad, ensuring zero structural damage to the protected monument. Around 10 advanced laser projectors have been installed without any excavation or alteration to the site. A dedicated control room, heritage lighting, and pathway illumination have also been set up.

Visitor Facilities and Show Details

A short film of approximately 24 minutes is screened during the show, with voice-over narration. Seating arrangements have been made on the steps of Rani ki Vav itself, accommodating 125 to 150 people. The ticket price for the show is ₹30. Two shows will be conducted daily. The Tourism Department will manage and maintain the project for five years.

Boost to Tourism and Local Economy

The introduction of the night-time show is expected to increase tourist footfall and encourage visitors to stay longer in Patan, benefiting local businesses such as food vendors and hospitality services. Authorities said the initiative marks a significant step in preserving and showcasing heritage through technology. DeshGujarat
