ACB Gujarat Traps CPWD Engineer in ₹4.5 Lakh Bribery Case

Jamnagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat on Thursday trapped a Class-II officer of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹4.52 lakh. The accused, Vijaykumar Babulal Meena, was posted as an Assistant Engineer in the Electrical Branch of CPWD, Jamnagar.

According to ACB officials, the complainant approached the agency after the accused allegedly demanded a bribe from his friend. The friend had secured contracts for electrical works at two locations: the under-construction pharmaceutical research centre being jointly developed by Gujarat Ayurved University and the World Health Organization (WHO) near Lakhabavad village in Jamnagar district, and the BSF Marine Training Centre at Mojap village in Dwarka taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka district.

The accused had allegedly demanded ₹4.52 lakh to clear pending bills related to the electrical work. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which subsequently laid a trap.

During the operation conducted at the accused’s chamber located at the CPWD office in the Gujarat Ayurved University campus in Jamnagar, Meena was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of ₹4.52 lakh. The accused also reportedly confirmed receipt of the bribe amount over a mobile phone call with the complainant’s friend.

The trap was executed by R.N. Virani, Field Police Inspector, ACB Rajkot Unit, along with the Jamnagar ACB team, under the supervision of Assistant Director J.D. Mewada. Deputy Director Baldevsinh Vaghela of ACB Rajkot served as the in-charge officer.
