Surat Airport to Get Duty-Free Shops Soon
April 02, 2026
Surat: Two years after Surat Airport was designated an international airport, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has initiated the process to set up duty-free outlets at Surat International Airport.
An RFP (Request for Proposal) has been issued for the design, development, operation, and maintenance of duty-free shops within the customs area of the terminal. The move follows the inauguration of the new terminal on December 17, 2023, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and is aimed at aligning Surat with global airport standards.
Airport Director A N Sharma said the outlets are expected to become operational within four to five months. Two shops, one each in the departure and arrival areas, are planned. Passengers will be able to purchase a range of products, including liquor, tobacco, cosmetics, chocolates, electronics, jewellery, and select “Made in India” items permitted under customs norms.
Residents and industry representatives have welcomed the initiative, saying it will enhance the airport’s international appeal. Members of the business community noted that duty-free facilities would improve convenience for foreign travellers visiting Surat’s diamond and textile sectors, while also elevating the overall passenger experience.
