April 11, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC), in its latest figures, stated that around 5.10 crore passengers travelled on the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro during the 2025–26 fiscal year. The data also revealed that the last financial year saw a significant surge in ridership, consistently outperforming figures from previous years.
The fiscal year began on a strong note in April 2025, recording 37.12 lakh journeys. Ridership saw a steady month-on-month increase throughout the first quarter, rising to 38.37 lakh in May and 39.23 lakh in June. The ridership witnessed a substantial jump in the second quarter, with July figures climbing to 44.04 lakh. While there were minor fluctuations in August (43.80 lakh) and a seasonal dip in October (38.20 lakh), the overall trend remained strongly upward.
The latter half of the fiscal year saw unprecedented growth. December 2025 closed the calendar year with 45.98 lakh journeys, setting the stage for a record-breaking start to 2026. In January 2026, the Metro recorded its highest ridership to date, with 47.70 lakh passenger journeys.
The fiscal year concluded with sustained high volumes. Despite a slight tapering from the January peak, February and March 2026 recorded 45.31 lakh and 44.28 lakh journeys, respectively. These year-end figures represent a substantial increase compared to the same period in 2025, when March ridership stood at 36.30 lakh.
An analysis of multi-year data shows a clear and steep upward trajectory for the Metro. Ridership levels throughout FY 2025–26 were nearly double those recorded during the same months in 2023, signalling a significant shift towards public transport usage. DeshGujarat
