Bhavnagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded around 10,000 candidates in the ongoing local body elections across Gujarat, marking the highest number among all political parties in the fray, state BJP chief Jagdish Vishwakarma said on Wednesday.
Addressing a gathering in Bhavnagar after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended, Vishwakarma stated that nearly 700 BJP candidates have already been declared elected unopposed across the state.
He described the development as unprecedented, noting that this is the first time in Gujarat’s electoral history that such a large number of candidates have secured victory without contest even before polling.
