Gandhinagar: The State Election Commission of Gujarat has started the counting of votes for local body polls in Gujarat. Voting for the local body elections took place on 26 April. The elections involve 4.18 crore eligible voters across district panchayats, taluka panchayats, municipalities, and municipal corporations. – The BJP won 33 of 34 district panchayats across Gujarat, while one Narmada district panchayat went to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
– The BJP sweeps all 15 municipal corporations in the state that went to poll, including the major cities like Amdavad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot.
– The BJP won 78 out of 84 municipalities across the state, while Congress improved its tally from the 2021 polls and went on to bag 6 municipalities.
– BJP wins the Surendranagar Municipal Corporation election; the party crosses the halfway mark and is well ahead.
– BJP wins the Nadiad Municipal Corporation election, crossing the halfway mark and moving well ahead.

– BJP wins the Sidhpur Municipality election in North Gujarat. Out of a total of 36 seats, BJP wins 26, including 3 unopposed, while Congress wins 6 and Independents 4.
– BJP wins the Porbandar Municipal Corporation election and is well above the halfway mark. Out of 52 seats, results for 34 seats have been announced (including 11 unopposed), all won by BJP. Counting is on.
– Congress wins the Dabhoi Municipality election. Out of a total of 36 seats, Congress wins 21 seats (including 4 unopposed) so far. The party sweeps six largely Muslim-populated wards (Ward Nos. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8) out of the town’s total nine wards. Counting is on.
– BJP wins the Morbi Municipal Corporation election. The party is well above the halfway mark. Results for 32 out of a total of 52 seats have been announced so far, all won by BJP.
– BJP wins the Navsari Municipal Corporation election; the party crosses the halfway mark. Out of 52 seats, results for 28 seats have been declared (including 2 unopposed), all won by BJP.
– The BJP has won the Savli Municipality election by securing 21 of the total 24 seats (one unopposed and the rest through voting). Counting is over.
– BJP has won the Kadi Municipality election. Out of a total of 36 seats, BJP won 28 seats unopposed in Hindu-majority areas, while the remaining 8 seats that went to polls were won by the Congress party across two largely Muslim-majority wards. The winning Congress candidates from these wards are: Fiza Shabbirbhai, Nurjahan Muhammadhanif, Muhammad Musir Ghanchi, Bismillakhan Pathan, Razia Kureshi, Hajibibi Saiyed, Iqbal Sheikh, and Ramesh Chavda.
– BJP has won the Vapi Municipal Corporation election and is well above the majority mark; counting is still underway.
– BJP has won the Bayad, Una, Padra, Dholka, Patdi, Gandevi, and Viramgam municipalities.

The counting of votes for local self-governance elections began at 9 am today (28 April) across 382 places, involving 838 counting halls and 6,991 counting tables.
As many as 28,240 counting staff are on duty, in addition to the presence of 33,750 police personnel for security arrangements. Traffic diversions have been announced in Ahmedabad and other places on roads that have counting centres. A total of 10,257 Class IV employees are also involved in duty at counting centres.
As many as 71 lakh urban voters and 1.61 crore rural voters cast their votes—around 2.33 crore voters in total. The overall turnout was 62.38 percent. Over 10,000 seats were to go to elections; however, candidates on around 750 seats were declared victorious unopposed. The total seats for which elections were necessitated were: Municipal Corporations – 1,044; Municipalities – 2,624; District Panchayats – 1,090; and Taluka Panchayats – 5,234.
Elections were held for 15 out of the state’s 17 municipal corporations, 34 district panchayats including the newly formed Vav-Tharad district, 84 municipalities (out of which 7 are new), and 260 taluka panchayats out of a total of 263.
Out of a total of 4.19 crore eligible voters, 1.10 crore were for municipal corporations, 33.66 lakh for municipalities, and 2.74 crore for taluka and district panchayats. DeshGujarat
