Ahmedabad: On polling day of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation elections, a clash broke out in Kubernagar ward between BJP and Congress workers over alleged bogus voting at V.V. Tomar School. Meghaninagar police have registered a case against four persons, including Congress candidate Nikulsinh Tomar, and launched an investigation.
The incident occurred around 12:30 pm on Sunday when Surajsinh Yadav, brother of BJP candidate Umedsinh Yadav, received complaints that votes had already been cast in the names of some voters in his area. He reached the polling booth at V.V. Tomar School to verify the allegations, where Congress candidate Nikulsinh Tomar and his supporters were present. An argument between the two sides escalated into a scuffle.
According to the complaint filed by Surajsinh Yadav, he was allegedly assaulted during the confrontation and sustained a serious eye injury. He also alleged that Nikulsinh Tomar threatened him during the altercation. Following the incident, voting was briefly disrupted at the centre.
Police intervened promptly to control the situation, and a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) also rushed to the spot. Based on the complaint, Meghaninagar police have booked Nikulsinh Tomar, his brother Yogesh Tomar, and two others identified as Bunty alias Sardarji and Badal Kumar.
Kubernagar ward was already considered sensitive, with tensions reported over banner-related disputes in the days leading up to polling. The clash further heightened concerns and briefly affected the voting process.
Meanwhile, Congress candidate Nikulsinh Tomar denied the allegations and countered that BJP workers were engaged in bogus voting. He claimed that when he reached the polling station, BJP supporters created a ruckus and assaulted him. However, no formal complaint has been filed by him so far. Police said further investigation is underway, and action will be taken based on the findings. DeshGujarat
