BJP’s impressive 59.36% vote share in Gujarat Municipal Corporation elections, Nearly 90% seats won

Japan K Pathak, Gandhinagar: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s domination in Municipal Corporation (MC) elections has been superior compared to all recent previous elections of Municipal Corporations in Gujarat.
The party has managed to get 59.36% vote share in MC elections. There’s no apple-to-apple compare because a lot many new Municipal Corporations are added this time, that were previously Municipalities.However if compared 59.36% vote share in MCs this year, the previous figures with fewer MCs were 53.82% in 2010, 50.28% in 2015 and 52.90% in 2021.
When compared, the main opposition Congress party has managed to get 26.46% vote share in 2026, which was 26.75% in 2021, 41.57% in 2015(Patidar quota agitation effect), and 32.62% in 2010.
Aam Aadmi Party had in 2021 election achieved 13.91% vote share in MC elections, which is 10.27% this time. AIMIM had 1.45% vote share in 2021 which is 1.56% this time.
When it comes to the seat numbers. BJP has won 937 of 1044 seats in Municipal Corporations, meaning a massive 89.75% wins. Congress has won merely 95 seats or 9.10% of total seats, mostly in Muslims populated areas, while AAP has won just 6 seats which comes to 0.575% of total in Municipal Corporation elections 2026 across Gujarat.
