Jalaram Parotha House, RP’s Pizzeria, Barbeque World Among Units Sealed in AMC’s Food Safety Drive

Ahmedabad: The Food Department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Health Department conducted an extensive food safety drive across various zones of the city throughout April 2026 to ensure compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Between April 1 and April 30, 2026, health officials inspected thousands of food establishments and collected a wide range of samples, including dairy products, cold beverages, and street food items. Of the 933 samples collected, 40 were declared “non-compliant” or failed to meet prescribed safety standards. Following these findings, the AMC has initiated legal action against the concerned Food Business Operators (FBOs).

Major Establishments Sealed for Violations

The department also undertook stringent enforcement action against several establishments found violating food safety norms:

• On April 5, Bhairavnath Punjabi Tadka in Vastral was sealed for operating without a food licence, using paneer analogue instead of genuine paneer, and maintaining unhygienic conditions.

• On April 7, Punjab Di Mehak in Navrangpura was sealed after insects and unhygienic conditions were found on the premises.

• On April 8, Janata Mutton and Chicken Centre in Amraiwadi was sealed due to poor hygiene conditions.

• On April 8, Shree Jalaram Parotha House in Saijpur was sealed for operating without a licence, using paneer analogue, and maintaining unhygienic conditions.

• On April 10, Vraj Dairy in Chiloda was sealed for manufacturing paneer analogue and selling it as genuine paneer.

• On April 11, Shree Jalaram Parotha House in Gota was sealed due to unhygienic conditions.

• On April 13, Jay Jay Shreenathji Chavana Bhandar in Bapunagar was sealed after expired food items and unhygienic conditions were found.

• On April 15, Patel Dairy in Saijpur Bogha was sealed due to poor hygiene.

• On April 21, Shree Umiya Dudh Ghar in Bapunagar was sealed for unhygienic conditions.

• On April 24, Tasty Thrills LLP (RP’s Pizzeria) in Navrangpura was sealed after live and dead insects were found in a deep freezer, along with unhygienic conditions.

• On April 27, a butter manufacturing unit in Shahpur was sealed for operating without a licence and non-compliance with Schedule IV norms.

• On April 30, Proficy Food and Beverages (Barbeque World) in Ambawadi was sealed after live insects were found inside a refrigerator and unhygienic conditions were observed.

Breakdown of Samples Collected

The 933 samples represented a broad cross-section of the local food industry:

  • Dairy: 133 samples of milk and milk products; 101 samples of paneer
  • Cold Refreshments: 74 samples, including juice, lassi, ice cream, and sharbat
  • Street Food: 49 samples of pani puri water, pakodi, and potato mixtures
  • Spices & Pantry: 96 samples of spices and 14 samples of edible oil

The AMC has stated that intensive inspections focusing on hygiene standards and valid licensing/registration will continue in the coming days. Establishments operating without licences or violating FSSAI and GPMC Act provisions will face strict legal action. DeshGujarat
