Stray Cattle Menace: AMC Captures 23 Unlicensed Animals in Gota
May 04, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a city-wide enforcement drive to curb stray animal menace, with 23 cattle seized in the Gota ward on May 2 as part of intensified action under the Stray Animal Prevention and Control Policy–2023.
The operation was carried out near Janatanagar Phatak and Gopalnagar Kalpana Row House by a joint team comprising officials from the North West, South West, Central, and West zones, along with the CNCD department. The drive was led by Deputy Municipal Commissioner Shrekumar Soni and CNCD Superintendent Dr. Divyesh Kumar Solanki. The team captured 23 unlicensed and unregistered animals from the Janatanagar Triangle and Chandlodia railway line areas.
During the operation, one individual identified as Kiranbhai allegedly obstructed the team and drove away two animals. A police complaint has been filed against him by North West Zone team leader Dhruvalbhai Vishnubhai Patel.
The action follows growing concerns over stray cattle in Gota, where animal owners, despite having adequate space, are reportedly letting cattle roam freely on public roads. Authorities said this has led to traffic hazards, accidents, and unhygienic conditions. In some cases, aggressive animals have also been reported to attack pedestrians.
The AMC stated that the drive is being conducted round the clock in three shifts, with zone-wise teams comprising municipal staff and police personnel deployed across the city. The enforcement is aligned with directives issued in PIL and contempt proceedings before the Gujarat High Court.
AMC stated that a detailed action plan and standard operating procedure (SOP) have been implemented under the supervision of Deputy Municipal Commissioners in each zone. The plan includes preventive, corrective, and enforcement measures, along with licensing and regulation of cattle owners.
The civic body has warned that strict action will continue against those violating norms, including cattle owners who allow animals to stray and individuals or entities contributing to public nuisance and health risks. DeshGujarat
