Bhuj: The recent fatal accident on the Dadhar-Sadhara road in Kutch district, in which three persons lost their lives after a car fell into an excavation pit, has raised serious questions over administrative functioning and safety measures at roadwork sites.
Following the incident, the Road and Building Department of the District Panchayat has initiated an inquiry into the matter and begun preparing a detailed report.
According to information received, excavation work was being carried out on the Daddhar-Sadhara road for renovation or related works. However, the contractor allegedly failed to install warning signboards, barricades or caution lights at the site.

Officials said that due to the absence of any safety arrangements, vehicles travelling at night could not detect the dug-up stretch, causing the car to plunge directly into the pit. Three occupants of the vehicle died in the accident.
Days after the incident, officials from the District Panchayat’s Road and Building Department visited the site for inspection and began collecting details for the inquiry report.
The incident has also triggered criticism over the delay in administrative and police action. Despite allegations of gross negligence and the loss of three lives, no criminal case has yet been registered against the contractor responsible for the work, according to sources. DeshGujarat
