May 26, 2026
Ahmedabad: An insect was allegedly found inside a kaju-anjeer milkshake purchased from a Chhaswala outlet on IIM Road in Ahmedabad, prompting the city civic body to impose a penalty of ₹25,000 on the outlet following an inspection.
According to officials of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the matter surfaced after a video of the incident went viral on social media. The customer had reportedly purchased the packaged milkshake from the Chhaswala outlet on May 15. After spotting the insect in the beverage, the customer raised concerns over the quality of the product at the outlet.
Following the viral video, the municipal food department initiated action and dispatched a team to inspect the outlet. AMC in-charge Additional Health Officer Dr Tejas Shah said that authorities imposed a ₹25,000 fine on the establishment after the inspection.
Officials further stated that Chhaswala’s production unit is located in Daskroi taluka of Ahmedabad district, which falls outside AMC jurisdiction. The matter has therefore been referred to the district food department for further investigation and appropriate action at the manufacturing facility.
Shah noted that cases of food adulteration and contamination are increasing due to negligence by manufacturers and vendors and urged consumers to report such complaints to the food department. DeshGujarat
