Jetpur: Panic gripped parts of Jetpur after a suspected rabid stray dog attacked and injured at least eight people in the Takudipara and Bawawala areas of the town within a single day.
According to local residents, the dog went on a rampage, attacking passersby and causing multiple bite injuries. Among those injured were two elderly women, identified as Manjulaben Kachhdiya and Vijayaben Patel, who reportedly sustained serious injuries in the attacks.
It is learnt that six of the eight victims sought treatment at government hospitals, while information about the treatment of the remaining two victims was not immediately available.
The incident has sparked concern and anger among residents of the affected areas, where stray dogs have reportedly been a persistent problem for some time. Residents alleged that despite repeated representations to the municipal authorities regarding the stray dog menace, effective action has yet to be taken.
The attacks have created an atmosphere of fear in the neighbourhoods, with many parents reportedly reluctant to allow their children to play outdoors. Elderly residents have also expressed concerns about venturing onto the streets.
Local residents have urged the municipal administration to immediately capture the suspected rabid dog and take steps to control the stray dog population in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future. DeshGujarat
