Gujarat-Cadre IPS Officer Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat Appointed ADG in SPG

Ahmedabad: Senior Gujarat-cadre IPS officer Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat has been appointed as Additional Director General (ADG) in the Special Protection Group (SPG), following approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the appointment was approved based on a proposal submitted by the Office of the Secretary (Security) under the Cabinet Secretariat. A 1998-batch IPS officer of the Gujarat cadre, Bhagat will hold the post until May 20, 2027.
The order noted that the post currently held by Bhagat has been temporarily upgraded to the ADG rank as a personal measure to facilitate his appointment in the SPG.
Bhagat is among the senior-most officers of the Gujarat cadre and has served in several key positions in both the state and central governments. On central deputation since May 2018, he has been associated with the SPG, the elite security force responsible for protecting the Prime Minister and other designated high-risk dignitaries.
