ACB Gujarat Nabs Vehicle Fitness Testing Station Staffer in Decoy Bribe Trap

Gandhidham: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday caught an employee of a private vehicle fitness testing station in Gandhidham red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,250 from a vehicle owner seeking a fitness certificate.
The accused, identified as Vikram Singh Mandrup Singh Jat (24), was employed at Abhishek Automated Vehicle Fitness Testing Station in Mithi Rohar, Kutch district. During the trap, ACB sleuths recovered the entire bribe amount of Rs 2,250 from his possession.
According to the ACB, the Kutch (East) unit in Gandhidham had received specific information that personnel at the automated fitness testing station were allegedly demanding cash payments ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000 from applicants, over and above the prescribed online government fees, for issuing commercial vehicle fitness certificates and approving vehicles for re-testing.

Acting on the tip-off, ACB officials organized a decoy operation involving a vehicle owner who required a fitness certificate for a re-pass inspection. During the operation, the accused allegedly demanded Rs 2,250 in cash in addition to the prescribed online fee. After a purposeful conversation, he accepted the bribe amount from the complainant and was immediately apprehended by the ACB team.
