Gujarat Wins Five National Awards for PM Surya Ghar Yojana

Gandhinagar: Gujarat has secured five national awards for its outstanding performance under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, reaffirming its position as a leading renewable energy state in the country. The awards were presented at a national ceremony held at Atal Akshay Urja Bhavan in New Delhi by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi.

The state emerged as the best-performing Category-B state under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) “Month of Solar May 2026” initiative and received the prestigious PM Surya Ghar Excellence Award along with four other national honours.

Shalini Agarwal, Managing Director of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), received the awards on behalf of the state.

According to official figures, Gujarat has recorded more than 10.66 lakh consumer applications on the national PM Surya Ghar portal and completed over 6.81 lakh rooftop solar installations. During the Month of Solar campaign conducted between May 1 and May 31, 2026, the state received over 3.06 lakh consumer applications and commissioned more than 35,000 rooftop solar systems.

Apart from the PM Surya Ghar Excellence Award, Gujarat secured first place nationally in four categories: the highest number of applications on the national portal, the highest number of rooftop solar installations commissioned, the highest number of inspections conducted by DISCOMs, and the highest number of vendor registrations.

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana was launched by the Central Government to promote rooftop solar adoption among households, enabling citizens to reduce electricity costs while contributing to environmental conservation. DeshGujarat
