Babra: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat on Sunday trapped and arrested a junior clerk of Babra Municipality while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹4,000 for issuing a birth certificate in Amreli district.
According to the ACB, the accused, Nanubhai Mamaiyabhai Gamara (54), had allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹5,000 from the complainant for providing the birth certificate of the complainant’s friend’s daughter. During negotiations, the amount was reduced and settled at ₹4,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB Police Station in Amreli and lodged a complaint. Based on the complaint, the ACB organized a trap operation on June 8.
The trap was laid at Thakarghani Hotel near the Babra bypass. During the operation, the accused allegedly engaged in a conversation with the complainant, reiterated his demand for ₹4,000 and accepted the bribe amount.
ACB officials immediately apprehended the accused and recovered the entire ₹4,000 from his possession. The agency stated that the accused was caught while allegedly misusing his position as the in-charge Sub-Registrar of Births and Deaths.
