Ahmedabad – Gandhinagar Metro Crosses 13.81 Crore Passengers, Daily Ridership Nears 1.6 Lakh

Gandhinagar: The Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro has emerged as a key pillar of urban public transport in Gujarat, with over 13.81 crore passengers travelling on the network between October 2022 and May 2026. The metro now records an average daily ridership of around 1.53 lakh passengers, a government release said.
As per the press release, following the implementation of Phase 1 and Phase 2, the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro network spans 68.28 km with 54 stations, becoming an integral part of daily commuting for lakhs of residents. Last-mile connectivity has been strengthened through coordination with agencies such as AMC, GMC, AMTS, BRTS and Indian Railways, with over 200 bus services connected to metro stations.
The metro’s daily ridership has witnessed steady growth over the years. Average daily passenger numbers increased from 69,000 in 2023 to 1.01 lakh in 2024 and 1.33 lakh in 2025, reaching 1.53 lakh by May 2026.
The service has also become the preferred mode of transport during major events. More than 2.26 lakh passengers used the metro during the IPL match on April 30, 2026, while over 2.22 lakh and 2.21 lakh passengers travelled during the IPL match on May 21, 2026, and the World Cup match on February 18, 2026, respectively. During the Coldplay concerts held on January 25 and 26, 2025, more than 4.11 lakh passengers used the metro service as per the GMRC data.
To meet rising travel demand, the Gujarat government is pursuing further expansion of the metro network. More than 68 km of new corridors have been proposed under the GIFT City Extension, Airport Connectivity project and Ahmedabad Metro Phase 3, with approvals at various stages before the government of India.
Meanwhile, the Surat Metro project, covering nearly 40 km with 38 stations, is also progressing, with trial runs successfully launched on a 15-km stretch. DeshGujarat
