RPF Deploys Drones to Safeguard Trains and Railway Assets in Ahmedabad Division
June 10, 2026
Ahmedabad: With an aim to boost railway security and curb incidents of stone pelting on trains, including the Vande Bharat Express, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has begun deploying drones for surveillance in the Ahmedabad Division. As part of the initiative, the drone monitoring has begun at Sabarmati and Gandhigram railway stations, along with their adjoining yard areas.
As per the reports, railway yards have remained particularly vulnerable, with several trains allegedly targeted by miscreants while passing through these sections. The drones are being used to monitor station premises, railway tracks, yards, encroachments and suspicious activities in real time, enabling security personnel to respond in a quick and effective manner.
It is learnt that drone surveillance has emerged as an effective tool, as the technology recently helped authorities detect an encroachment near the F Cabin area in Sabarmati, which was subsequently removed.
The RPF said drone monitoring is also playing an important role in securing critical railway infrastructure, including the high-speed rail corridor. According to officials, the visibility of aerial surveillance acts as a deterrent, discouraging mischief-makers and helping prevent unlawful activities near railway tracks and station premises.
