Rajpipla: BJP MLA from Nandod in Narmada district, Dr. Darshana Deshmukh, walked out of a government function alleging that she was insulted during a programme held to mark 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance. She later staged a dharna at Gandhi Chowk in Rajpipla and threatened to resign from both her MLA post and party responsibilities. Bharuch MP Mansukh Vasava also joined the protest, bringing the apparent internal rift within the district BJP into the open.

A ‘Prabudh Nagarik Samman’ programme was organised at Ambedkar Hall in Rajpipla to mark the completion of 12 years of the Prime Minister’s governance. Dr. Deshmukh expressed her displeasure on stage, alleging that proper protocol was not followed for the local MLA at the event, which was attended by District In-charge Minister Ishwar Singh Patel and former minister Ganpat Singh Vasava. She further alleged that her name was deliberately excluded from the list of speakers.
During the programme, the MLA openly voiced her objections in the presence of senior leaders and ministers. “You are the minister in charge. Can you see how this programme is being conducted? Have you called me here to insult me? I have won this election and come here; I have not been appointed from above,” she said.
Speaking to the media from the protest site, Dr. Deshmukh said, “As a tribal woman, a tribal MLA and a tribal daughter, such an insult cannot be tolerated. Who has given anyone the right to insult women whenever they wish?”
Dr. Deshmukh directly targeted district BJP president Ghanshyam (Neel) Rao, alleging that she has faced repeated humiliation over the past two years. She claimed that the district president was acting arbitrarily because he enjoys the backing of a senior minister in Gandhinagar.
MP Mansukh Vasava linked the issue to tribal identity and said, “This is not just an insult to one MLA, but an insult to the entire tribal community. District BJP president Neel Rao should resign immediately.”
In an attempt to defuse the controversy, the district in-charge ministers reportedly invited the aggrieved MLA for discussions at the Circuit House. However, Dr. Deshmukh refused to attend and made it clear that she would continue her dharna until she receives justice.
She also claimed that written representations regarding the issue had previously been submitted to former Gujarat BJP president C.R. Patil. DeshGujarat
