June 16, 2026
Surat: Solar equipment manufacturer Navitas Solar on Tuesday announced plans to invest around ₹1,500 crore in the state to establish a 3.6 GW high-efficiency solar cell manufacturing facility, along with a pilot wafer and ingot production line. The proposed facility will be set up at Navitas Solar’s Ankleshwar campus and will mark the company’s entry into solar cell manufacturing.
The project will be implemented in phases, with the first phase expected to be commissioned in 2027.
Vineet Mittal, Director – Finance & Strategy at Navitas Solar, said that civil work has already begun, technology partnerships have been finalised, key government approvals have been obtained, and senior leadership has been appointed to oversee the project.
As part of its long-term strategy, the company also plans to establish a pilot wafer and ingot production line by 2027 to further strengthen backward integration.
It is learnt that out of the planned ₹1,500 crore investment, around ₹1,400 crore will be allocated towards the 3.6 GW solar cell manufacturing unit, while ₹100 crore will be invested in the pilot wafer and ingot production line.
According to the company, the upcoming facility aims to strengthen domestic value addition, reduce reliance on imported solar components, and contribute to India’s clean energy and manufacturing goals.
Navitas Solar said the project is expected to create nearly 1,000 direct jobs across manufacturing, engineering, operations, project execution, quality control and research functions. It is also likely to generate substantial indirect employment in logistics, ancillary industries and related support services. DeshGujarat.
