Reliance to Scale Jamnagar Battery Gigafactory Capacity to 120 GWh: Anant Ambani
June 19, 2026
Jamnagar: Reliance Industries is significantly ramping up its clean energy ambitions, with Director Anant Ambani announcing plans to increase the company’s battery energy storage system (BESS) and cell manufacturing capacity to 120 GWh per year.
Addressing shareholders at the company’s 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 19, Ambani said the first phase of Reliance’s 40 GWh annual BESS and Cell Gigafactory is progressing as scheduled and is expected to be commissioned later this year.
“The first phase of our 40 GWh annual BESS and Cell Gigafactory is on track to be commissioned this year. All the equipment has already been delivered at the site. And we have now committed to scale this up to 120 GWh of annual capacity. When commissioned, this will make Reliance one of the world’s largest manufacturers of lithium iron phosphate batteries,” Anant said.
“In a world where supply chains are being contested and access to technology is being weaponized, building world-scale battery manufacturing capacity in India is not merely a business decision. It is a strategic imperative for national resilience,” he further said.
The move forms a crucial part of the company’s larger new energy roadmap focused on developing large-scale clean energy and energy storage infrastructure in India.
Solar Manufacturing Gains Momentum
Reliance also announced that its solar photovoltaic (PV) cell and module manufacturing lines are now operational. The company has already produced nearly 1 GW of heterojunction technology (HJT) solar modules.
Ambani said, “I am proud to report that our solar PV cell and module manufacturing lines have been commissioned and are now operational. Nearly 1 GW of Heterojunction Technology (HJT) modules have been produced, with around 2% higher energy yield, 15% better temperature performance, and 25% lower degradation than conventional modules.”
Reliance has secured ALMM certification for HJT technology, becoming the first Indian company to achieve this recognition for the advanced solar cell technology.
“We are building towards 20 GW per annum of fully integrated capacity – from polysilicon to ingots, wafers, cells, modules, and glass,” Ambani further said. DeshGujarat
