SYSTRA to Design Ahmedabad Metro Airport Link and GIFT City Extension

Ahmedabad: Global engineering and mobility consultancy SYSTRA has been awarded the Detailed Design Consultancy (DDC) services contract for the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase 2 in Gujarat.

As per the company, “This latest contract builds on the successful delivery of the original Phase 2 design for Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (GMRCL) and marks the next chapter in SYSTRA’s partnership to support Ahmedabad’s expanding metro network, improving connectivity between urban centres, economic districts, and key gateways across the city.”

The appointment includes two strategically important extensions:

The first, Phase-2A | Airport Link, is a 5.11-km elevated corridor running from Koteshwar Road to SVP International Airport. With four stations, this section is designed to make airport access easier, faster, and more reliable for commuters and air travellers.

The second, Phase-2B | GIFT City Expansion, will deliver an elevated 3.3-km metro extension with three stations, supporting the continued rise of GIFT City, a smart city and growing financial hub. The performance of public transport will be key to better connecting residents with economic opportunities and investment.

It is notable that the Union Cabinet last week approved the Phase-2A corridor from Koteshwar Road to the airport, while Phase-2B, which provides for laying an extension metro rail line from GIFT City to the Shahpur stretch, received Cabinet approval in February this year. DeshGujarat
