Gujarat Board Issues Notices to Three Ahmedabad Schools Over ‘Dummy Schooling’

Ahmedabad: In a crackdown against the dummy school culture, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has issued notices to three schools in Ahmedabad.

The state board recently conducted surprise inspections at three schools during which officials found that only around 30% of enrolled students were present in classrooms, raising concerns over a significant mismatch between admissions and actual attendance.

Based on the findings, the board has issued show-cause notices to SS Divine School in Science City-Gota, Divine School in Naroda and Gayatri Vidyalaya in Naroda, asking why their affiliation should not be cancelled.

GSHSEB Secretary Rakesh Vyas said the inspections revealed very low attendance among Class 11 and 12 students despite large enrolment figures. The schools have been asked to explain the discrepancies, and the matter will be placed before the board’s executive committee.

Dummy schooling has become increasingly common in Gujarat, particularly among students preparing for medical and engineering entrance exams. Under this arrangement, students remain formally enrolled in schools but spend most of their time at coaching institutes, attending only practical sessions or mandatory school activities. DeshGujarat
