Pre-Monsoon Rains Fail to Cool Gujarat; Ahmedabad Temperature Climbs Back Above 40°C

Ahmedabad: Despite the pre-monsoon rains across the state over the last two days, there has been no significant relief from the heat. The maximum temperature has increased again in many cities of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad. According to the latest report from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in Ahmedabad was recorded at 40.2 degrees Celsius on Friday, which is 2 degrees above normal.

Surendranagar remained the hottest city in the state, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.3 degrees Celsius, which is 2.2 degrees above normal. The heat continued in other places as well, with Rajkot recording 39.5 degrees, Deesa 38.8 degrees, Gandhinagar 38.6 degrees, and Kandla 38.5 degrees.

In the Saurashtra region, Amreli recorded 37.9 degrees and Bhavnagar 38 degrees. Despite receiving 5 mm of rain, Bhavnagar’s temperature remained 1.5 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature in Vadodara was 36.5 degrees, Bhuj 36.7 degrees, and Surat 35.4 degrees. Dwarka recorded 34.8 degrees, Porbandar 34.7 degrees, Okha 35 degrees, and Veraval 33.5 degrees.

According to data from the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), 2 mm of rainfall was recorded in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Seventy-six talukas in the state received 1 mm or more of rainfall, most of it recorded after 6 pm. On Friday, 51 talukas in the state also received rainfall, although there was no rainfall in Ahmedabad and the weather remained partly cloudy throughout the day.

According to the IMD, the northern boundary of the southwest monsoon has remained stable for the seventh consecutive day up to Harnai and Solapur in Maharashtra. However, the department has said that weather conditions are favourable for the monsoon to advance northward in the coming days.

The state is currently experiencing the impact of an upper-air cyclonic circulation formed over southwest Madhya Pradesh and its associated trough, due to which scattered rain showers are occurring.

The minimum temperature in Ahmedabad was recorded at 29 degrees Celsius, which is 1.4 degrees above normal. Humidity was recorded at 61 percent at 8:30 am and 37 percent at 5:30 pm. The Meteorological Department has indicated the possibility of a similar maximum temperature in Ahmedabad on Saturday as well. DeshGujarat
