June 23, 2026
Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has planned to construct a flyover bridge near Shyamdham Temple on Kamrej Road at an estimated cost of Rs 83 crore. The proposed 900-metre-long flyover is expected to ease chronic traffic congestion on the busy Varachha-Kamrej corridor and is slated for completion within three years.
The stretch near Shyamdham Temple on Kamrej Road, which connects Surat and Kamrej, experiences heavy traffic congestion during peak hours on a daily basis. To address the issue, the SMC has initiated the process for constructing the flyover. The project has been included in the civic body’s 2026-27 budget, and the tender process has already been launched. The last date for submission of bids covering design, engineering and construction works is June 24.
According to the tender conditions, the selected contractor will be required to complete the project within 36 months. The proposed flyover will have a total length of around 900 metres, including a 288-metre stretch on the Varachha side, a 355-metre section at the junction, and a 260-metre stretch towards Kamrej.
Once completed, the flyover is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and provide relief to lakhs of commuters using the route every day. DeshGujarat
