Southwest Monsoon 2026 Makes Onset in Gujarat After Delayed Advance

Surat: The Southwest Monsoon 2026 made its onset in Gujarat today, covering the southern districts of the state. The monsoon, which usually arrives in Gujarat around June 15, witnessed a delayed advance this year and entered the state around nine days later than normal.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passes through 20°N/60°E, 20°N/65°E, 20°N/70°E, Surat, Indore, Mandla, Daltonganj, Motihari and 28.3°N/83°E as of June 24. This means the monsoon has covered Valsad, Navsari, Dang, Tapi and parts of Narmada district.
“Conditions are favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into some more parts of the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, the remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar, and some parts of Uttar Pradesh during the next two to three days. Thereafter, it is likely to advance into some more parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Uttarakhand during the subsequent two to three days,” the IMD said.
Meanwhile, as of today, the state has received only 22 mm of rainfall, which is 2.52% of its average seasonal rainfall of 909 mm (1996–2025). DeshGujarat
