Surat Man Killed in Blast at Qatar Refinery

Surat: The death of Surat resident Sunny Patel has been confirmed three days after a deadly explosion at a refinery facility in Qatar on Sunday evening. His body was identified on Wednesday by his elder brother Ravi Patel, who also works in Qatar.
Sunny had moved to Qatar around seven months ago to join his brother and pursue better employment opportunities. Confirming the death, Surat Collector Tejas Parmar said the Gujarat government has been coordinating with the Indian Embassy in Qatar and is extending all possible assistance to the family to facilitate the return of the body to Surat. The mortal remains are expected to arrive in the city within the next few days.
Sunny, a resident of the Dumas area of Surat, is survived by his mother, wife and four-year-old child. He was employed in the mechanical department at the Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas complex in Qatar.
The explosion occurred at the Barzan gas supply facility operated by QatarEnergy LNG in Ras Laffan city. The incident claimed 13 lives and left 66 others injured. Sunny was among those who lost their lives in the blast.
Ravi Patel, who has been working in Qatar for several years, had helped his younger brother secure employment there. The brothers had lost their father about 15 years ago. DeshGujarat
