Wrong Turn Brings Air India, IndiGo Aircraft Face-to-Face at Ahmedabad Airport

Ahmedabad: An Air India aircraft mistakenly entered the same taxiway as an IndiGo plane at Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday evening after taking a wrong turn while taxiing to its parking bay.

The IndiGo flight, which was preparing to depart for Mumbai, was taxiing for take-off when the Air India aircraft moved onto the same taxiway. The two narrow-body A320 aircraft stopped at a safe distance of about 200 metres from each other, as per reports.

In a statement, Air India said, “We are aware of an incident where our flight AI2493 operating from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on June 24 inadvertently took a wrong turn during taxiing after landing. There was no compromise on the safety of passengers and crew. The aircraft was subsequently towed back to the parking bay. The matter has been reported to the regulatory authorities and an investigation initiated.”

IndiGo also confirmed the incident, saying its flight 6E 5160 from Ahmedabad to Mumbai was briefly delayed after an aircraft of another airline accidentally took an incorrect turn and obstructed its path during taxiing.

“Both aircraft came to a halt at a safe distance from each other. The other aircraft was subsequently towed away, and our flight departed and landed safely at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai,” the airline said, adding that the relevant authorities were informed immediately.

Meanwhile, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in a statement said,”On 24.06.2026, Air India A320 aircraft VT-TQV operating flight AI2493 (Mumbai-Ahmedabad) landed on Runway 23 at Ahmedabad. After clearing runway via taxiway “C” it was given taxi clearance to international apron following Taxy way “P” and Taxy way “G”. However, aircraft continued on Taxy way “P” instead of taking right turn on Taxy way “G towards international apron. Crew of Air India immediately stopped the aircraft on Taxy way “P”. Approximately at the same time Indigo A320 aircraft VT-IST operating flight 6E-5160 (Ahmedabad-Mumbai) was taxiing on Taxy way “P” for its departure. The Indigo aircraft also stopped on TWY P. Both the aircraft had sufficient distance between them. The Air India aircraft was towed to parking stand. DGCA is investigating the occurrence.”DeshGujarat
