Wrong Turn Brings Air India, IndiGo Aircraft Face-to-Face at Ahmedabad Airport

Ahmedabad: An Air India aircraft mistakenly entered the same taxiway as an IndiGo plane at Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday evening after taking a wrong turn while taxiing to its parking bay.

The IndiGo flight, which was preparing to depart for Mumbai, was taxiing for take-off when the Air India aircraft moved onto the same taxiway. The two narrow-body A320 aircraft stopped at a safe distance of about 200 metres from each other, as per reports.

In a statement, Air India said, “We are aware of an incident where our flight AI2493 operating from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on June 24 inadvertently took a wrong turn during taxiing after landing. There was no compromise on the safety of passengers and crew. The aircraft was subsequently towed back to the parking bay. The matter has been reported to the regulatory authorities and an investigation initiated.”

IndiGo also confirmed the incident, saying its flight 6E 5160 from Ahmedabad to Mumbai was briefly delayed after an aircraft of another airline accidentally took an incorrect turn and obstructed its path during taxiing.

“Both aircraft came to a halt at a safe distance from each other. The other aircraft was subsequently towed away, and our flight departed and landed safely at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai,” the airline said, adding that the relevant authorities were informed immediately.
