Monsoon Stalls After Entering Gujarat; Large Parts of State Still Await Rain
June 26, 2026
Surat: Even after the arrival of the southwest monsoon in Gujarat two days ago, most parts of the state are still waiting for the full onset of the monsoon. The monsoon, which usually enters Gujarat around June 15, reached South Gujarat on June 24 this year with a delay of about nine days. However, as of today, the monsoon has not progressed to other parts of the state.
According to the latest bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Northern Limit of the Monsoon is currently passing through Surat, Indore, Mandla, Daltonganj, and Motihari.
This means that most of Saurashtra-Kutch, North Gujarat, and Central Gujarat are still awaiting monsoon rains. The only districts covered by the monsoon so far are Valsad, Dang, Navsari, Surat, Tapi, and parts of Narmada.
Meanwhile, the IMD says that during the next three to four days, conditions are becoming favourable for the advance of the monsoon into more areas of the North Arabian Sea, the remaining parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and some areas of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
According to the IMD, an upper air cyclonic circulation is active over North Gujarat and Saurashtra at an altitude of 3.1 to 5.8 km above mean sea level. In addition, southwesterly to westerly winds are blowing at lower levels, which are considered favourable for the further progress of the monsoon.
Rain showers are currently expected in many parts of the state. According to the Meteorological Department’s forecast, the monsoon is likely to advance into more parts of the state, including North and Central Gujarat, over the next three to four days. Farmers and residents are now eyeing the upcoming rain system, as widespread rainfall has become essential for agricultural activities. DeshGujarat
