Violent clash, stone-pelting between two Muslim groups in Dariyapur, Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: A fight that started over a trivial matter in the Dariyapur area of the city on Sunday evening took a violent turn late at night. Two groups of Muslim individuals came face to face and attacked each other with bats and sticks. Videos of the clash have gone viral. Stone-pelting also took place during the scuffle, in which at least three people were injured.

The Dariyapur police have filed two FIRs in the matter after cross-complaints were lodged by both groups. Reportedly, eight people have been booked, and further investigation is underway.

According to one of the FIRs, on Sunday evening at around 6:00 pm, a fight broke out between Yahia, son of complainant Abdul Rashid Bukhari, and accused Usaid Sakibbhai Sheikh at the entrance of Dadhiyawad. The complainant intervened and settled the matter, but after some time, the accused’s mother and aunt came to the complainant’s house and started another fight.

As the altercation escalated, accused Usaid Sheikh and Faizan Allah Rakha rushed in with baseball bats and wooden sticks. The accused attacked the complainant, his son Yahia, and his brother Raza Ahmed. In the attack, Yahia suffered serious head injuries and started bleeding. The attackers also broke the windows of a rickshaw and a motorcycle parked on the road, causing damage to the property. The injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital for immediate treatment.

Based on Abdul Rashid’s complaint, the Dariyapur police have registered a case against Usaid Sheikh, Nasrinben Sheikh, Usaid’s aunt, Faizan, and two other unidentified persons under the BNS. Another FIR has also been registered following a cross-complaint filed by the other party. Further investigation is being conducted, police said. DeshGujarat
