Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad to Host FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers 2026
July 01, 2026
Ahmedabad: The city is set to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers 2026 for the first time, with the Gujarat State Basketball Association announcing that the international tournament will be held at the Veer Savarkar Indoor Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The event marks the first occasion that Ahmedabad, or for that matter Gujarat, will host a basketball tournament of this scale.
Indian basketball fans will get to watch the national team in action twice during the qualifiers. India will face Qatar on July 2 at 6 pm, followed by a match against Lebanon on July 5 at 8:30 pm.
The tournament follows the successful hosting of an international volleyball championship at the same venue, further underlining Gujarat’s ability to stage major international sporting events in quick succession.
Gujarat State Basketball Association president Shakti Singh Gohil described the opportunity to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers for the first time as a historic milestone for the state. DeshGujarat
