Padma Shri Awardee Cancer Specialist Dr. Pankaj Shah Passes Away at 76

Ahmedabad: Well-known senior medical oncologist and Padma Shri awardee Dr. Pankaj Shah passed away on Thursday morning, July 2, 2026. He was widely respected for his decades-long contribution to cancer care and his commitment to providing affordable medical treatment to patients.
Dr. Shah was conferred the Padma Shri in 2018 in recognition of his distinguished service in medicine. He was also a recipient of the prestigious Dr. B. C. Roy Award and served as the Honorary Physician to the Governor of Gujarat.
Over a medical career spanning more than five decades, Dr. Shah became one of Gujarat’s most respected oncologists. He served as Director of M. P. Shah Cancer Hospital, associated with Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad. Post-retirement also, he continued serving patients by establishing the Sadvichar Parivar Medical Center, where he remained actively involved in providing medical guidance and treatment.
Known for placing service above all else, Dr. Shah consistently encouraged patients to seek a second medical opinion before making major treatment decisions. His approach earned him the trust and respect of patients, colleagues and the wider medical community.
At the time of his demise, he was serving as the head of Sadvichar Parivar.
His final journey will commence from his residence at Karmayog Heights, near the St. Xavier’s College–HL Commerce College Corner in Navrangpura, and proceed to the V. S. Crematorium at Ellisbridge. The last rites are scheduled to take place at 6:30 pm on Thursday. DeshGujarat
