July 03, 2026
Vadodara: A shooting incident in the Bhayli area of Vadodara late on Thursday (July 2) has created a stir. Unknown persons opened fire at Flat No. 201 of the AARNA-48 apartment near Priya Theatre while the occupants were asleep. The bullets pierced the mosquito net and balcony glass, passed through the wooden door, and entered the drawing room. Police recovered spent cartridges from the spot.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a party involving a group of youths was underway on the fourth floor of Ashwamedh Avenue, about 200 metres from the AARNA-48 apartment. During the party, an argument reportedly broke out, following which some of the youths allegedly opened fire indiscriminately. One of the bullets struck Flat No. 201 of the apartment located opposite the party venue.
After receiving information about the incident, teams from the local police, the Local Crime Branch (LCB), and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reached the spot. The area was inspected, evidence was collected, and CCTV footage from the vicinity was seized. The footage reportedly shows several people fleeing the area after the firing.
Police have rounded up five to six people in connection with the incident. The weapon allegedly used in the firing has also been seized. The detained individuals are being questioned as police try to ascertain the exact reason behind the firing.
The firing shattered the balcony glass, and the family members woke up from their sleep due to the loud noise. The incident created an atmosphere of fear in the neighbourhood.
According to the police, a woman lives in the flat with her parents, and the preliminary investigation has not found any personal enmity involving the family. Investigators, therefore, believe the flat was not the intended target and that the bullet struck it during indiscriminate firing at the party. Police also suspect that liquor was being consumed at the party, despite alcohol being prohibited in Gujarat. DeshGujarat
