Wabang Jamir Appointed In-Charge Surat Police Commissioner
July 04, 2026
Surat: The Gujarat government has appointed ADGP Wabang Jamir as the in-charge Police Commissioner of Surat City following the transfer of Anupam Singh Gehlot to Ahmedabad. Jamir, who was awaiting a posting, will hold the additional charge until further orders, according to an official order issued by the state government.
A 1999-batch IPS officer, Wabang Jamir holds a B.E. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. He was awarded the President’s Police Medal in 2021. During his career, he has served as Inspector General of Police (IGP) in the State Intelligence Bureau in Gandhinagar and as Special Commissioner of Police (Sector-1) in Surat, giving him prior experience in the city.
The post of Surat Police Commissioner fell vacant after Anupam Singh Gehlot was appointed as the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner. Gehlot was initially given the additional charge of Ahmedabad Police Commissioner after G.S. Malik assumed office as the state’s Director General of Police (DGP). The government subsequently named Gehlot as the full-time Ahmedabad Police Commissioner, reportedly in view of the upcoming Rath Yatra.
With Gehlot’s appointment in Ahmedabad, the state government has now entrusted Wabang Jamir with the charge of Surat Police Commissioner until further orders. DeshGujarat
