Boats Drift Into Sea Amid Rough Weather Off Gir Somnath; ICG Rescues Four Fishermen
July 05, 2026
Gir Somnath: Heavy rain and strong winds triggered rough sea conditions off the Gir Somnath coast on Sunday, causing several fishing boats anchored at Syed Rajpara village in Una taluka to break free from their moorings and drift into the sea.
According to officials, five to six fishing boats and two to three smaller boats were anchored in the bay near Syed Rajpara. However, strong winds, heavy rainfall and powerful river currents caused the boats to snap their anchors and get swept away.
Authorities later learned that one of the drifting boats had four fishermen on board, prompting the Indian Coast Guard to launch a rescue operation from Syed Rajpara.
The Coast Guard successfully rescued all four fishermen near Nawabandar. The rescued fishermen have been identified as Kamlesh Jilubhai Baraiya, Narshi Bachubhai Bambhaniya, Ravji Babubhai Shiyal and Ramji Babubhai Shiyal. DeshGujarat
