Surat: Adverse weather conditions and heavy rainfall in Mumbai disrupted flight operations on Sunday, forcing three IndiGo flights to divert to Surat Airport as a precaution. A total of 524 passengers were on board the three flights.
According to airport officials, an IndiGo flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Mumbai landed safely at Surat Airport at 11:12 am. The aircraft was carrying 189 passengers. After refuelling, the flight departed for Mumbai at 1:15 pm. However, nine passengers, who were from Surat and nearby areas, chose to end their journey in Surat, while the remaining 180 passengers continued to Mumbai.
Another IndiGo flight from Chennai to Mumbai, carrying 158 passengers, was diverted to Surat and landed at 11:31 am. After refuelling, the aircraft resumed its journey to Mumbai at 12:57 pm with all passengers on board.
Later in the evening, an IndiGo flight from Varanasi to Navi Mumbai was also diverted and landed safely at Surat Airport at 6:40 pm.
The diversions were necessitated by unfavourable weather conditions in Mumbai, which affected flight operations at the city’s airport.
