Chetan Dabhi, a member of the Palitana Taluka Panchayat, said that three lions entered the village at around 8:30 am and reached Kalubhai’s house. He alleged that despite several representations to the Forest Department regarding the movement of lions in the village, adequate attention was not paid. He has demanded that the lions be safely shifted back to the forest and that the safety of villagers be ensured.
Savjibhai, the husband of the Sarpanch of Garjiya village, said that the Forest Department team reached the spot about an hour and a half after being informed of the incident. According to him, lions have frequently been seen moving through the village over the past five years, and the matter has been reported to the department several times.
Forest Department officials have reached the spot and started an investigation. The department is monitoring the movement of lions in the area, and if necessary, action will be taken to move them away from human settlements.
Following the incident, an atmosphere of fear has gripped livestock owners and residents of Garjiya village and nearby areas. Locals have demanded that the Forest Department increase regular patrolling, safely relocate lions that enter human settlements back to the forest, and take effective measures to ensure the safety of Maldharis, farmers, and other villagers.
