SG Highway Stretch Between YMCA and Karnavati Club Set to Reopen from Aug 1

Ahmedabad: Due to the ongoing construction of the elevated corridor on SG Highway, the approximately 1.2-km stretch from YMCA Junction to Karnavati Club Junction has remained closed to motorists for the last eight months. However, the road is now expected to reopen to traffic from August 1.

According to officials, the work was delayed after engineers encountered an extremely hard rock formation while excavating for the ramp pillars. A special ‘diamond machine’ had to be brought in from outside to break through the rock. As a result, the project’s completion deadline, which was earlier expected to be July 30, has now been extended to September 30.

It is noteworthy that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had obtained permission from the Traffic Police for only six months of traffic diversion to carry out the elevated corridor work. However, even after eight months, the road has not yet become fully operational. As a result, around 1.5 lakh motorists are forced to take a detour of nearly 4 km every day, adding to both their travel time and fuel costs. DeshGujarat
