Amreli youth killed in lion attack after ‘disturbing mating pair’

Amreli: A 21-year-old man was killed in a lion attack in Gujarat’s Amreli district on Wednesday evening, a forest official said.
The victim, Sohail Munjawar, a resident of Amreli, was attacked in the Antaliya revenue area near the Luvariya Reserve Forest, according to Deputy Conservator of Forests Chirag Amin.
Based on the preliminary investigation, forest officials suspect the attack occurred after Sohail and his friend allegedly disturbed a lion while it was mating with a lioness. Officials said a detailed probe is underway to determine the exact circumstances.
Following the incident, the forest department launched a rescue operation and captured the male lion, estimated to be between nine and 12 years old.
