Gir Somnath: The Gujarat government today suspended a government primary school teacher after allegations surfaced that he had sent a student to buy alcohol. The incident, involving a Class 7 student, occurred at Khapat Primary School in Una taluka of Gir Somnath district.

Education Minister Dr. Pradyuman Vaja stated that the teacher was suspended following an order from the District Development Officer. Meanwhile, Una police have registered an FIR and arrested the accused teacher based on a complaint filed by the school’s headmaster.

The Education Minister remarked that such conduct by a teacher, who bears the responsibility for shaping students’ futures and character, would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He emphasized that the state government would not compromise on the interests of students or the dignity of educational institutions.

A three-member committee has been constituted to investigate the matter concerning the accused teacher, Hareshgiri Gulabgiri Goswami (a teacher for Classes 6 through 8). The committee comprises the Deputy District Development Officer of Gir Somnath, the Taluka Primary Education Officer of Veraval, and the Taluka Development Officer of Girgadhda. Further departmental action will be taken based on the committee’s investigation report.

Dr. Vaja has also spoken to the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Gir Somnath, directing that swift and stringent legal action be taken in the case.
