Empty Shipping Container Washes Ashore at Navapara Beach in Gir Somnath

Veraval: A huge shipping container was found washed ashore on the beach of Navapara village in Veraval taluka of Gir Somnath district early on Saturday morning, sparking curiosity among locals. After spotting the container near the crematorium, villagers immediately informed the Prabhas Patan police.

Upon receiving the information, a team from the Prabhas Patan police reached the spot and inspected the area. Considering the seriousness of the incident, the Customs Department was also informed. A team from the department later arrived at the site and began examining the container.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the container may have fallen into the sea from a cargo ship due to bad weather, high waves, or some other reason. It is believed to have drifted with the sea currents before washing ashore at Navapara village.

During the inspection, the container was found to be empty, and some of its parts were found to be damaged. However, no suspicious material was found inside.

The Customs Department is now trying to identify the shipping company and the cargo ship from which the container fell by examining the container number and other identifying markings.

The police and the Customs Department are investigating the matter from all angles. Once the investigation is completed, more clarity is expected on the container’s origin, how it fell into the sea, and how it eventually reached the Navapara coast. DeshGujarat
