Western Railway Completes 120 kmph Speed Trial on Katosan Road – Becharaji – Ranuj Rail Section in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: In good news for devotees of Becharaji Mataji, Western Railway on Saturday announced that, for the first time, a successful 120 kmph speed trial has been completed on the Katosan Road–Becharaji–Ranuj broad gauge rail section.

According to Western Railway, a statutory safety inspection of the line was conducted by the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (Western Circle) from July 9 to 11, 2026. The inspection included a detailed examination of the track, signalling system, overhead equipment (OHE), bridges and other safety infrastructure.

Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (Western Circle) E. Srinivas carried out the inspection in the presence of Ahmedabad Divisional Railway Manager Ved Prakash and other senior railway officials. On the third day of the inspection, the Commissioner conducted an intensive safety review of the Chanasma–Ranuj section.

As part of the inspection, the rail section witnessed its first-ever successful 120 kmph speed trial, demonstrating that the track meets the required standards of safety, quality and operational readiness.

Western Railway said passenger train services on the Katosan Road–Becharaji–Ranuj section will commence after all technical and statutory formalities are completed and the final approval is granted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety.

Developed at an estimated cost of around ₹1,000 crore, the 63-km project will provide modern rail connectivity to the Mehsana and Patan districts.

The new rail link is expected to significantly improve connectivity across North Gujarat while also providing faster and more convenient access for devotees visiting the renowned Bahucharaji Temple. Railway officials said the project will strengthen regional rail connectivity and offer passengers safer, more reliable and efficient travel. DeshGujarat
