Laser Beam Aimed at Air India Express Flight at Surat Airport; 2nd Incident in 15 Days
July 13, 2026
Surat: For the second time in 15 days, someone flashed a green laser light at an aircraft during landing. On Saturday night, the pilot of an Air India Express flight arriving from Delhi reported seeing a green laser beam aimed at the cockpit during the final approach.
However, due to the pilot’s alertness and coordination with Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft landed safely without any mishap, carrying 163 passengers. The flight entered Surat airspace at 11:55 pm. As the aircraft was making its final approach, the pilot spotted a green laser beam, reportedly originating from the Katargam area, which distracted him for a few moments.
Pointing laser beams at aircraft during landing is considered a serious aviation hazard, as it can temporarily blind or distract pilots during the most critical phase of a flight. Following the incident, a detailed investigation is underway to identify those responsible.
The security breach has prompted an investigation by Surat police, who are pursuing the matter under the relevant legal provisions. DeshGujarat
