10 Tribal People Return to Hinduism at ‘Ghar Wapsi’ Event in Surat

Surat: Around 10 members of tribal families from Dang, who had earlier converted to Christianity, re-embraced Sanatan Hindu Dharma through a religious ceremony held at the Jalebi Hanuman Dada Temple in Mangrol taluka in Surat.

The participants, belonging to remote villages in Subir taluka of Dang district, underwent rituals conducted by priests with the chanting of Hindu scriptural mantras. The ceremony took place in the temple courtyard as part of a ‘ghar wapsi’ (homecoming) programme.

According to the organisers, the group included four women, six men, as well as children and youth. They also took a pledge to remain free from addiction for the rest of their lives during the ceremony.

The programme was organised by the Dev Birsa Sena. The organisation’s chief claimed that a total of 54 people have so far returned to Sanatan Hinduism through similar initiatives.

The organisation further alleged that several tribal residents in Dang had earlier been converted to Christianity after being lured with promises of curing illnesses and through inducements. It claimed that the families voluntarily decided to return to their original faith after becoming aware of the facts. DeshGujarat
