Gujarat Govt to provide subsidised fodder to cattle breeders in Kutch amid rain deficit
July 18, 2026
Kutch: Due to a lack of rainfall in Kutch district this year, natural grass production has not started, leading to a shortage of fodder for cattle breeders. Keeping this in mind, the Gujarat government has decided to distribute grass at subsidized rates to cattle breeders in all talukas of the district.
As per the resolution issued by the Revenue Department, dry fodder will be provided at subsidized rates to small and marginal farmers, landless cattle breeders, farm labourers, and cattle owners across all talukas of Kutch district. Under this scheme, each eligible cattle breeder will be issued one grass card for a maximum of five cattle.
Based on the grass card, 4 kilograms of dry fodder will be provided per animal daily at a subsidized rate of Rs. 2 per kilogram. A cattle breeder will be eligible for only one grass card and can collect the required quantity for seven days at a time.
The government has entrusted the district collector with the responsibility of managing the entire grass distribution system. Grass cards with photographs will be issued to cattle breeders, recording details of the animal owner, the number of animals, and the quantity of grass distributed. Grass will be distributed only on the basis of these grass cards.
Keeping local requirements in mind, the collector will be able to start the required number of new grass depots or distribute fodder through the existing forest department grass depots. The necessary staff will be arranged from the existing establishment.
The government has said that this relief scheme will remain in force for 15 days from the date of the resolution. If transportation of grass is required, action will be taken as per the prevailing financial rules, and the cost will be borne by the state government.
The state government has taken this decision to provide immediate relief to cattle breeders in view of the fodder shortage caused by delayed rains in Kutch district, the resolution states. DeshGujarat
